He was a prominent civil rights leader in the 1960s, one of the first activists to make it in a major political position. Despite Barry's popularity, he became an infamous figure when he was caught smoking crack cocaine in 1990. He was arrested and served a six month sentence, but quickly picked his political career back up. Barry won back his mayoral seat in 1994, famously telling people to
