It was originally supposed to be a one time event where they got a bunch of cool bands together to celebrate the newly founded motorsport racetrack Nrburgring. A lot of people showed up and so they kept doing it. In 1998, the festival included some enormous names, such as Prodigy, Ozzy Osbourne, Bob Dylan, Van Halen, and more.
