inscribed in pencil "Grandad Charlie / Great War 1914-1918 / Wounded and Gassed / Served 1915 onwards / Volunteered to fight and was the first to enlist on the outbreak of war" on the reverse

The sub was being refitted from a previous accident and was at the floating dock in Portsmouth

and carries a facsimile signature of Reich Marshal Hermann Göring

Marie, Ontario as the 97th Regiment of Rifles. Sub units were located in Thessalon, Sudbury and Sturgeon Falls. It was re designated on June 1, 1903 as the 97th Regiment (Algonquin Rifles); re designated on May 1, 1920 as The Algonquin
