They are sculpted with meticulous detail, and placed so that it looks like they have just landed on the piece. Veins in their wings and tiny hairs on their bodies are etched. The vessel is then bisque fired before 5 layers of deep turquoise underglaze are brushed on with a small blue triangle pattern
